A Quarantine Lookbook

Updated: Jan 11, 2022

During quarantine it feels like everyone is creating. Its a perfect time to explore hobbies and creative endeavors, old and new. These are often practices that people don't feel they have time for during their 'regular' lives. But with 'regular' life on hold, its time to be creative. For myself, this has manifested into picking back up my paint supplies and rediscovering my interest in style, not just fashion but aesthetic design and art. So, while thinking about my experiences during quarantine, I decided to create a lookbook for quarantine styles and personas. A quick note on the mask: It seems that masks are the hottest new accessory of the season so they were included in every look to tie the whole lookbook together. Each outfit has additional accessories and explanations so scroll down to find out more about the inspiration and ideas for these looks!

Look #1: Essential Errand

This is the outfit for when you have to leave the house after 10 days of minimal school work housework. The egg carton is empty and the grocery list is full, so its time to make the journey to the shops.

Overalls are a good pick for both utility and style. Multiple pockets are perfect if you are also picking up groceries for your elderly neighbour, or compromised friends. A simple shirt is a necessity to get through what may be a tense errand. This comfortable look is perfect for the waiting outside the stores, and long lines at checkout.

Great add on accessories for this outfit include sanitizing spray, plastic gloves, and maybe even two types of masks.

Look #2: Zoom Meeting

This outfit is for those video meetings where its time to look put together, at least from the waist up. Sleeping in is still alright because this look only takes half as long to put together.

We want to have a top appropriate for the meeting, and a collar is definitely going to impress. Make sure this shirts cropping and length will work with sitting for long periods of time and potential nervous shifting. But once we get to the bottoms, there is total freedom. Sweatpants, pajama bottoms, running shorts, whatever your hearts desire will work when the camera is only seeing the waist up.

Great add-ons include: a fun virtual backgrounds, colour coordinating your professional top and comfortable bottoms just to feel extra put together.

Look #3: At Home Fitness

A look for the time you swap the sweatpants for yoga pants and take on one of the many, many, many at home work outs made accessible during quarantine.

This looks is adjustable to whatever fitness you are taking on. However there are some commonalities that any work-out-fit will have. Since the gym is now at home, no worries about how fashionable or coordinated your look is, rather comfort is key. Reward yourself for being active and maybe add a little fun. Mix and match patterns or wear your funkiest patterns to add a little bit of excitement.

Perfect add-ons include running shoes you haven't touched in a month, and the water bottle that used to accompany your everyday.

Look #4: Political Pundit

The final look is the classic outfit of any panel of experts and pundits. Tune in to any news channel and you will find this professional but entertainment ready look.

If you are ready to tell the future - or even just guess it - you will need this professional look to remain believable. People want to hear from those in the know, and if you claim such (even with little credibility), make some splashy comments, and wear a blazer, everyone will be turning your way.

Great add-ons to make this look complete include unplaced certainty, no special training, and the ability to create more fear and panic than necessary.
